SunriseWALKS Long Island has raised over $820,000 all because of YOU!

On Sunday, June 11, over two thousand supporters came out to celebrate at our
18th Annual SunriseWALKS Long Island!

To our walkers, fundraisers, Chair Families, Committee, volunteers, and donors,
THANK YOU for giving summer back to children with cancer and their siblings. Because of your generosity, on June 29, hundreds of campers will be returning to Sunrise Day Camp-Long Island to enjoy a fun-filled summer.

We've raised over $820,000 towards out $1,000,000 goal!

While our SunriseWALKS Celebration may be over, you can continue to make a difference in the lives of children impacted by pediatric cancer.

We're continuing to collect donations!
Just think, if each registered participant raised or donated an additional $90,
we would hit our $1M GOAL!

SunriseWALKS Long Island benefits Sunrise Day Camp-Long Island, the world's first full-summer day camp for children with cancer and their siblings, offered completely free of charge. As a program of the Friedberg JCC and a proud member of the Sunrise Association, our mission is to bring back the joys of childhood to children with cancer and their siblings worldwide. More than just a walk, SunriseWALKS is our annual community event filled with music, games, prizes, and more! By joining us, you will be playing a key role in sending children with cancer and their siblings to Sunrise Day Camp, where they can forget about the hospital beds, and needles, and enjoy a summer camp filled with excitement, friendship, and fun.

The Henry Family
L-R: Tamara, Wesley, Zoey, Ziva, and Clive Henry

If anyone knows Zoey, you know that she’s a funny girl who loves to telling dad jokes, taking pictures, sports, filming, dogs, and nature. You know you need be able keep up with this ball of energy! Zoey always had her quirks. She was always falling a lot, walking a little funny, and her speech was little off with a slight slur, amongst other little things we thought were normal for Zoey. We just thought it was all a part of growing up- she’ll outgrow it. As parents you don’t think anything is wrong with your child.

In June 2020, she was on a walk around the neighborhood with her sister, cousin, and friends. Later that evening, she was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, Glioma of the brainstem. There, she met her Oncologist, Dr. Sharon Gardner. she knew of Zoey's energetic outgoing personality, and helped her stay a kid despite everything going on. And that is why she connected Zoey and her twin sister Ziva with a special summer camp program that they could attend together- Sunrise Day Camp Long Island.

Should COVID-19 remain at or below its current levels, we will not be requiring proof of vaccination at this point. Nevertheless, for the safety of our campers who will be attending the walk, we do request that all walkers be vaccinated against COVID-19, including a booster against the omicron variant.  We further ask that you not attend the walk in-person if you are not feeling well, or if you have been knowingly exposed to anyone with a communicable illness. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we continue to make our best efforts to keep our children - and our supporters - healthy and safe.
