Who We Are
SunriseWALKS Long Island benefits Sunrise Day Camp-Long Island, the world's first full-summer day camp for children with cancer and their siblings, offered completely free of charge. As a program of the Friedberg JCC and a proud member of the Sunrise Association, our mission is to bring back the joys of childhood to children with cancer and their siblings worldwide. Sunrise accomplishes this through the creation and oversight of welcoming, inclusive summer day camps, year-round programs and in-hospital recreational activities, all offered free of charge.
More than just a walk, SunriseWALKS is our annual community event filled with music, games, prizes, and more! By joining us, you will be playing a key role in sending children with cancer and their siblings to Sunrise Day Camp, where they can forget about the hospital beds, and needles, and enjoy a summer camp filled with excitement, friendship, and fun.

The Henry Family
L-R: Tamara, Wesley, Zoey, Ziva, and Clive Henry
If anyone knows Zoey, you know that she’s a funny girl who loves to telling dad jokes, taking pictures, sports, filming, dogs, and nature. You know you need be able keep up with this ball of energy! Zoey always had her quirks. She was always falling a lot, walking a little funny, and her speech was little off with a slight slur, amongst other little things we thought were normal for Zoey. We just thought it was all a part of growing up- she’ll outgrow it. As parents you don’t think anything is wrong with your child.
In June 2020, she was on a walk around the neighborhood with her sister, cousin, and friends. Later that evening, she was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, Glioma of the brainstem. There, she met her Oncologist, Dr. Sharon Gardner. she knew of Zoey's energetic outgoing personality, and helped her stay a kid despite everything going on. And that is why she connected Zoey and her twin sister Ziva with a special summer camp program that they could attend together- Sunrise Day Camp Long Island.
