When my boys were ages 4 and 2 we received the devastating news that our friends oldest boy of 2 had osteosarcoma.
Mathias passed away in December, 2014 at the age of 13 after years of battling the gruesome disease.
I accepted the role of HorizonWALKS Director in December 2021 when my oldest was the same age as Mathias when he passed away. My younger son was also the same age as Mathias’s brother when he passed.
The opportunity to spearhead the inaugural and second annual fundraising initiative was presented to me and I couldn't pass it up.
While I regret not being able to help Mathias's family more back in their darkest hours, I hope that I can continue making up for it now by doing everything in my effort to bring joy to families suffering from pediatric cancer.
