As many of you know I’ve had the privilege of working at Sunrise Day Camp for the last five years. This summer, more than ever, we have seen the importance of being able to give back childhood to children and families affected by cancer.
For the last year and a half we have seen firsthand how cancer impacts families with cancer - isolation, mask wearing, constant hand washing - in fear of contracting something from others. Although we needed to do this because of Covid, this is what our families go through from the moment they hear the diagnosis of cancer. Being able to provide a summer for these children to be outside, engaging with friends, and being able to just be kids during the summer and year-round is the most rewarding experience I have ever had!
As the director of this incredible camp, I cannot imagine not being able to provide the joys of Sunrise to our families. It costs $6000 to send a child to Sunrise Day Camp.
