I’ve had the privilege of working at Sunrise Day Camp for the last five years. This summer, more than ever, we have seen the importance of being able to give back childhood to children and families affected by cancer. Over the last year and a half we have seen firsthand how cancer impacts families with cancer - isolation, distancing, mask wearing, constant hand washing - in fear of contracting something from others. Although we did this because of Covid, this is what our families go through from the moment they hear the diagnosis of cancer. Being able to provide these children a chance to be outside, engaging with friends, and being able to just be kids during the summer and year-round is the most rewarding experience I have ever had! As the director of this incredible camp, I cannot imagine not being able to provide the magic of Sunrise to our families. It costs $6000 to send one child to Sunrise Day Camp.
