Not only am I a walker, I am also the HorizonWALKS Director responsible for making this event as successful as possible. This entire effort is to raise funds for kids with cancer, and their siblings, enabling them to have an amazing summer day camp experience.
About me: when my boys were ages 4 and 2 we received the devastating news that our friends oldest boy of 2 had osteosarcoma.
Mathias Giordano passed away in December, 2014 at the age of 13 after years of battling the gruesome disease.
My oldest is currently Mathias's age when he passed.
The opportunity to spearhead this inaugural fundraising initiative was presented to me and I couldn't pass it up.
While I regret not being able to help Mathias's family as much as I could have back in their darkest hours, I believe that I can make up for it now by doing everything in my effort to bring joy to families suffering from pediatric cancer.
Help give summer back to children with cancer and their siblings by making a donation to my HorizonWALKS fundraising page!
HorizonWALKS is an annual walkathon event that raises critical funds and awareness for Horizon Day Camp – Metro DC, the world’s first full-summer day camp for children with cancer and their siblings, offered completely free of charge. Horizon Day Camp, along with their Year-Round Programming and In-Hospital Recreational Activities, brings back the simple joys of childhood to hundreds of children who are impacted by pediatric cancer.
HorizonWALKS will be held in June 2022 and will consist of an Opening Ceremony, followed by a walk with family and friends, plus fun activities at the National Harbor.
Please consider making a donation today and/or joining HorizonWALKS to help raise much needed funds for these children.
