HorizonWALKS is an annual walkathon event that raises critical funds and awareness for Horizon Day Camp, Maryland’s first full-summer day camp for children with cancer and their siblings, offered completely free of charge. Horizon Day Camp, along with their Year-Round Programming and In-Hospital Recreational Activities, brings back the simple joys of childhood to local Maryland and Washington, D.C. area children impacted by pediatric cancer.
Flynn and Bennett are twin brothers diagnosed with leukemia just 9 months apart from each other. When our lives were changed, Horizon Day Camp offered a sense of normalcy to Flynn, Bennett, and Nellie. We get to see the three of them be kids and enjoy everything camp has to offer- making new friends, having new experiences, swimming, eating ice cream, singing/dancing/crafting, attending carnivals, playing on inflatable slides, and other surprise days! And this is offered to our family and families like ours without any financial stress.
I don’t know what the future holds for our family, but I do know that no matter what we will continue to endure, the support we have around us will keep us going. Horizon Day Camp is a family that we have joined, and they have become an essential support to “Flynn’s Army” and “Bennett’s Brigade.”
HorizonWALKS will be held in October 2022 at Power Plant Live! starting at 8:00am. The Opening Ceremony will be livestreamed on Facebook at 9:00am, followed by a group walk with family and friends in Baltimore’s beautiful Inner Harbor.
