As some of you may know, for the past 2 years I have served as Chair of the Leadership Board for this amazing camp.
What makes Aurora so special? This incredible day camp was created to provide a fun, safe and healthy place for kids who have suffered from cancer AND their siblings. Even more importantly, its totally free! Maya and Crosby swear that it is "the best camp ever" and I couldn't imagine summers without these people.
This summer will be IN PERSON when so many camps are choosing virtual. This is more important than ever. We expect more than 150 children to join us. But it comes at a cost .
The camp hires more than 50 summer counselors and nurses, provides free bus transportation from 17+ counties surrounding Atlanta, rents its facility for the summer and will have to purchase new recreational supplies and PPE equipment to make a fun, safe and accessible summer.
Please help me make sure that Aurora is around for many years to come, so that these kids, who have already suffered way too much, get a summer filled with fun and love!
You can simply make a donation, or you can join me as a walker on my team. Then reach out to 5 friends to ask them to support you. You will be amazed by the response. Every walker who raises $100 earns the official 2021 AuroraWALKS t-shirt.
The cost to send one child to camp for the entire summer is $6,000. Your support and friendship will help us beat our $175,000 campaign goal which helps provide our summer camp, year-round and in-hospital programs completely free of charge to the families.
Maya's oncologist - Dr. Glen Lew - is the medical director of the camp. It was a proud moment for me when they awarded him the Aurora Champion Award in 2019 at the Dare to Dream Gala. The picture is above on the left.
I've posted two videos from the gala below -- Rachel and I are featured in one of them, and Dr. Lew is featured in the other.
Thank you for helping me give summer back to children with cancer.
