I am excited to help my dear friend Maria Myler as a walker on her team, Maria’s Clan Spreads Smiles in AuroraWALKS, a virtual campaign to raise awareness and much needed funds for Aurora Day Camp.
Aurora Day Camp is Georgia’s only full summer day camp for children with cancer and their siblings, ages 3 1⁄2 –16 who are in active or follow-up treatment for cancer, all free of charge.
Aurora gives families normalcy, hope, relief and a unique opportunity for patients and siblings to be together. Camp is not about cancer, simply fun and children being children. Aurora Day Camp is a proud member of the Sunrise Association whose mission is to bring back the joys of childhood to children with cancer and their siblings world-wide, with full summer Day Camps, Year-Round Programs and In-Hospital Recreational Activities, serving over 6,000 children last year, all free of charge.
I am grateful for many blessings in my life, my healthy kids, my incredible grandson, the light in my life and I have seen the magic of this camp when I visited last summer. I can't imagine having a child with cancer and a full summer day camp would be such a blessing.
I am proud to help Maria, who has helped me so many times in fundraising for lung cancer research. Maria was my top fundraising walk in my Lungevity Walk Team, and she bust her butt in planning and slogging to ensure the success of my evening event last year in Atlanta, that raised $70,000 for lung cancer research.
My personal goal is $1500 and our team goal is $18,000. We both would really appreciate your support of our team and this magical mission. It costs $6,000 to send one child to camp for the entire summer.
While we cannot host AuroraWALKS in person due to COVID, Maria’s Clan across the globe and I are committed to our goals. Every dollar counts. With your help; our Clan can reach our team goal and the $125,000 event goal and help hundreds of families impacted by pediatric cancer.
This summer, Aurora accomplished something extraordinary by transitioning to an all summer long virtual camp that provided endless fun for nearly 150 campers who enjoyed activities with their friends and counselors.

While COVID -19 has wreaked havoc on the world we live in, these very special children need us now more than ever. Thanks so much for helping Maria and I bring joy to children with cancer. Our Aurora WALKS Virtual Celebration is on Sunday, September 13th, 10:00AM. I will send you a picture of us as we celebrate our team reaching our goal!
